Trio Leads Alabama Women’s Tennis on Day One of Ole Miss Fall Invite

Bencheikh, Hiser and Sedlackova recorded wins on the opening day of competition

OXFORD, Miss. – Three Alabama women’s tennis players captured their first singles win of the season Friday as the Crimson Tide opened the 2021-22 campaign at the Ole Miss Fall Invite at the Plamer/Salloum Tennis Center.

Loudmilla Bencheikh cruised to a two-set win to lead the Tide on the first day of the tournament. She dropped just one game in her opening set against Karine-Marion Job to top the Kansas State player 6-1, 6-3.

Anne Marie Hiser fought Kansas State’s Rosanna Maffei in a back-and-forth three-set battle. She took the first set 6-1 before falling 6-4 in set two. Hiser rebounded from the second-set loss to win the final set and the match with a 7-5 decision.

UA’s final win of the day was a come-from-behind victory by Petra Sedlackova. Sedlackova dropped a 7-6(4) tiebreak in the opening set but battled to take decisive wins in sets two and three. Sedlackova claimed a 6-0 victory in the second set before closing the match with a 6-2 win against the Wildcats’ Maria Linares.

The Tide will return for day two of the Ole Miss Fall Invite Saturday. Doubles matches will begin at 9 a.m. CT. Alabama is schedule to compete in singles matches at 1 p.m. CT.
