Alabama Women’s Golf Continues Fall Season at Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.
– After beginning the season with a pair of top-five finishes, the No. 12 University of Alabama women’s golf team continues its fall slate at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational. The tournament, which is the second of four fall tournaments for the Crimson Tide, will be held at the Finley Golf Course (par 72, 6,379 yards) in Chapel Hill, N.C., Oct. 15-17.



The tournament field features 18 teams, including 13 teams ranked in the nation’s top 50, according to the latest Golfweek rankings. No. 12 Alabama will square off against No. 8 Michigan, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 14 Duke, No. 28 Virginia Tech, No. 29 Furman, No. 31 Vanderbilt, No. 34 Kentucky, No. 41 Mississippi State, No. 43 Ohio State, No. 44 Clemson, No. 45 North Carolina, No. 48 Michigan State, Maryland, Southern Methodist, NC State and UNC Wilmington.



Tee times will begin Friday and Saturday at 7:30 a.m. CT, while Sunday will feature a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. CT. The Tide will be paired with Michigan and Duke for the opening round, taking the first tee at 8:30 a.m. CT.



THE LINEUP

  • Alabama’s lineup at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational includes Angelica Moresco, Benedetta Moresco, Emilie Øverås, Polly Mack and Sarah Edwards, the same lineup as its previous two fall tournaments
  • The Crimson Tide is coming off a runner-up finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., in late September, posting a 12-under-par 852, which marked the program’s lowest regular-season team score since September 2018
    • B. Moresco and Mack both garnered top-ten finishes at the Championship, finishing tied for seventh and 10th, respectively
    • A. Moresco recorded a 2-under-par 214 to finish tied for 17th, her first top-20 finish of the season
    • At the Mason Rudolph Championship, all five members of the Tide’s lineup finished in the top 50, with Edwards tying for 38th and Øverås tying for 44th
  • Mack and A. Moresco lead the lineup in rounds counted this season, each contributing all six of their rounds thus far
    • All five players on the Crimson Tide’s lineup have contributed at least 50 percent of their rounds to the team score
  • Mack is also leading the team in stroke average, boasting 70.83 shots per round
    • Mack and B. Moresco are both averaging under par this fall, as B. Moresco barely trails Mack on 71.00 shots per round


TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

  • The Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational is held annually at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
  • It will mark Alabama’s ninth appearance at the tournament since 2010
    • The Crimson Tide finished runner-up in its most recent appearance at the Invitational in 2019, turning in an 11-under-par 853 performance to finish just one stroke behind tournament champion Michigan State
      • Mack, A. Moresco and Øverås were all members of the 2019 team
    • Alabama won the event during the 2010-11 season, while Brooke Pancake was the Crimson Tide’s last individual medalist at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational that same season
  • Alabama has met seven of the 17 teams competing in the field already this season, including Clemson, Duke, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt
    • The Tide shared the top five with Duke and Wake Forest at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in the season opener
