Alabama Track and Field Women Adds Three Individuals and Two Relays to Their NCAA Outdoor Championship Roster on the Final Day of East Preliminary

Overall, the Crimson Tide women are sending five individuals in six events along with a pair of relays to the national championships in Eugene, Ore., next month


BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Alabama qualified three individuals and two relays for next month’s NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary, which was held in Bloomington, Ind., at the Robert Haugh Track & Field Complex this week.


Flomena Asekol (1,500 meters) Amari Brown (200 meters), Mercy Chelangat (5,000 meters) and Amaris Tyynismaa (5,000 meters) along with the 4x100-meter relay of Na’Taja Ballard, Brown, Ayla Stanisclaus and Milan Fields and the 4x400-meter relay of Christal Mosley, Amara Obi, Brown and Ballard all earned their way to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.


Chelangat (10,000 meters) and Samantha Zelden (javelin) had already earned their spot at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, bumping the UA women’s total headed to the NCAA Championships in Eugene to five individuals in six events along with two relays.


Overall, Alabama is sending 13 competitors in 14 individual events along with three relays to Eugene after the men qualified eight in individual events as well as the 4x400-meter relay following Friday’s action.


On the men’s side of the slate, Bobby Colantonio Jr. (hammer), Victor Kiprop (10,000 meters), Isaac Odugbesan (shot put) and Chago Basso (shot put) earned their trips to Oregon on Wednesday while Eliud Kipsang (1,500 meters), Khaleb McRae (400 meters), Corde Long (400-meter hurdles), Tarsis Orogot (200 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay of Leander Forbes, Long, Demetrius Jackson and McRae punched their tickets on Friday.


Tide Tickets Punched on Saturday

  • Flomena Asekol is headed west for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after running a 4:12.73 in the 1,500 meters to take sixth on the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary
  • Na'Taja Ballard, Amari Brown, Ayla Stanisclaus and Milan Fields punched Alabama's ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 4x100m relay with a 43.42, which ranks eighth all-time at UA
  • Brown posted a time of 22.92 to finish 10th and punch her ticket for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 200 meters
  • Brown’s 200 meters time ranks her sixth all-time at UA
  • Mercy Chelangat ran a 15:36.20 in the 5,000 meters to add the event to her schedule in Eugene
  • Amaris Tyynismaa earned her spot in the 5,000 meters field with a time of 15:42.27
  • Alabama closed out the NCAA East Preliminary by advancing to nationals in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.37 from Christal Mosley, Amara Obi, Brown and Ballard
