Alabama Track and Field Opens 2022 Indoor Season with a Pair of Meets in Birmingham

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track & field is set to begin the 2022 indoor season this weekend, as the Crimson Tide travels up the interstate to Birmingham, Ala., for the Blazer Invitational on Friday and the Vulcan Invitational on Saturday. Both meets are being held at the at the Birmingham Crossplex and hosted by UAB.



The Tide will take on a total of 17 teams from six states. Power-5 foes include Mississippi State and Ole Miss from the Southeastern Conference and Miami and Louisville from the Atlantic Coast Conference. FIU, Alabama State, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Grambling, Jackson State, Meridian Community College, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss., Tulane, and host UAB will also be competing.



Friday’s Blazer Invitational begins Friday at 10 a.m. CT with the men’s high jump and shot put and continues through the 4x400-meter relay at 5:30 p.m. CT. Running events begin at noon CT. On Saturday, Alabama opens the Vulcan Invitational at 10 a.m. CT with the 60 meters and closing the day at 4:30 p.m. CT with the 4x400-meter relays.



Spectators are allowed for both meets and must wear a mask, per UAB policy.

The Lineup

  • There are 80 members of the Crimson Tide’s combined roster slated to make their 2022 indoor debut this weekend between the two meets
  • Among those competing in Birmingham on Friday and Saturday, 35 newcomers – freshmen and transfers – are set to suit up for their first indoor competition for the Crimson Tide
